THE VERY FIRST HYBRID MICROGRID SOLUTION IMPLEMENTED BY TELENETIX TOOK PLACE IN 2008 FOR THE SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE SERVICE. THE REMOTE LOCATION OF CERTAIN POLICE STATIONS MEANT LIMITED ACCESS TO THE NATIONAL GRID, A PROBLEM PERFECTLY SUITED FOR THE TECHNOLOGY OFFERED BY TELENETIX.

THE HYBRID MICROGRID COMBINED SOLAR ENERGY WITH BATTERY STORAGE AND DIESEL GENERATORS FOR BACKUP. SOLAR ENERGY ALLOWED OPERATIONS TO CONTINUE IN A SUSTAINABLE FASHION DURING DAYTIME. GENERATOR POWER SUPPLEMENTED THE MICROGRID DURING HOURS WHEN PEAK POWER WAS REQUIRED, RUNNING ONLY WHEN REQUIRED AND MAXIMIZING THE TIME BETWEEN FUEL DELIVERIES REQUIRED.

SOLAR POWER STATIONS – INGETEAM 75MW SOLAR PLANT

THE JASPER PROJECT IS A 75MW SOLAR FARM IN THE NORTHERN CAPE AND ONE OF THE LARGEST IN SOUTH AFRICA. A TOTAL OF 39 CONTAINERIZED POWER STATIONS WERE USED TO CONSTRUCT THE SOLAR FARM, ALL BUILT BY TELENETIX. EACH 2MVA POWER STATION CONTAINED INVERTERS SUPPLIED BY INGETEAM, AS WELL AS A 2MVA STEP UP TRANSFORMER AND REQUIRED MV SWITCHGEAR.

AGRICULTURAL SOLAR – RISSEEUW 750kW SOLAR FARM

IN 2016 TELENETIX CONSTRUCTED THE 750kW RISSEEUW SOLAR FARM A MEGA AGRICULTURAL ENTITY IN THE LIMPOPO PROVINCE, SOUTH AFRICA.  THE SOLAR FARM GENERATES UP TO 1,4 MWh PER YEAR, SUPPLYING SUFFICIENT CLEAN, RENEWABLE ELECTRICAL ENERGY TO POWER THE CUSTOMERS BUSINESS.

DISTRIBUTION OF THE ENERGY GENERATED IS RESOLVED THROUGH BANKING DIRECTLY WITH ESKOM. THE OUTPUT OF THE SOLAR FARM IS THEREFORE STEPPED UP TO MEDIUM DISTRIBUTION VOLTAGE AND FED INTO THE ADJACENT ESKOM SUBSTATION, TO BE CONSUMED AT A NUMBER OF PRE-EXISTING CONSUMPTION POINTS. ALL ENERGY GENERATED BY THE FARM IS THEREFORE CREDITED BY ESKOM AND DEBITED UPON CONSUMPTION, ESSENTIALLY CREATING SHELF-LIFE FOR SOLAR ENERGY BY DELAYING CONSUMPTION WITHOUT PENALTY OR THE REQUIREMENT FOR EXPENSIVE ENERGY STORAGE.

AGRICULTURAL SOLAR – THABA THOLO 750 kW SOLAR FARM

CONSTRUCTION HAS STARTED AND IS ONGOING ON THE 750kW THABA THOLO SOLAR FARM.  THIS RENEWABLE ENERGY INSTALLATION WILL ASSIST THABA THOLO TO IMPLEMENT GREEN ALTERNATIVE ENERGY IN THIS WILDLIFE BREEDING AND CONSERVATION FOCUSED FARM.

THE EXISTING ESKOM NETWORK IS USED TO DISTRIBUTE THE ENERGY GENERATED, WHICH IS SUBSEQUENTLY CONSUMED AT EXISTING METERED POINTS OF CONSUMPTION.

ALL EQUIPMENT REQUIRED TO MANAGE AND RUN THE THABA THOLO FACILITY IS INSTALLED IN SPECIALLY CONVERTED SHIPPING CONTAINERS, INSULATED AND COOLED TO PROLONG LIFETIME AND PROVIDE SECURITY ON SITE. EQUIPMENT REMAINS EASILY SERVICEABLE, HOWEVER THROUGH INSTALLATION IN A CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT, EQUIPMENT SERVICE INTERVALS ARE INCREASED. BY UTILIZING MODULAR INFRASTRUCTURE TO HOUSE ALL REQUIRED EQUIPMENT, CONSTRUCTION TIME (AND THEREFORE COST) IS ALSO MINIMIZED AND SITE DESIGN IS SIGNIFICANTLY SIMPLIFIED

 

SCALEABLE MICROGRID SOLAR TECHNOLOGY

THE SOLAR MICROGRID IS A SOLAR ENERGY GENERATOR WITH BATTERY AND GENERATOR BACKUP, WHICH FUNCTIONS COMPLETELY OFF-GRID. THE MICROGRID CAN DELIVER PEAK POWER OF BETWEEN 42KVA 102KVA IN EITHER ONE, TWO OR THREE PHASE CONFIGURATIONS. DURING DAYTIME, THE MICROGRID GIVES PRIORITY TO THE 40KW OF SOLAR ENERGY AVAILABLE. DURING LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS 80KWH OF BATTERY POWER IS AVAILABLE TO SUSTAIN OPERATION, WITH AUTOMATIC GENERATOR MANAGEMENT FOR SUSTAINED OFF-GRID PERFORMANCE. OPTIONAL LITHIUM BATTERY TECHNOLOGY INCREASES AUTONOMY BY INCREASING STORED ENERGY TO 250KWH.

THE ENTIRE SYSTEM MAY BE MONITORED REMOTELY BY MEANS OF THE SCHNEIDER CONEXT COMBOX, GIVING ACCESS TO HISTORICAL DATA AS WELL AS CURRENT SYSTEM PERFORMANCE. WITH ACTIVE COOLING AND DOUBLE AIR FILTRATION SYSTEM THE LIFETIME OF THE EQUIPMENT IS PROLONGED AND SERVICE INTERVALS KEPT TO A MINIMUM.

THE CONTAINERIZED MICROGRIDS CAN BE PERMANENTLY INSTALLED OR USED AS MOBILE POWER GENERATORS FOR DISASTER RELIEVE & HUMANITARIAN AID PROVIDERS.
